Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you so much for reading this blog and following along with my jewelry journey. I appreciate your interest and support so much. I hope you are enjoying your Thanksgiving celebration with family and friends. Here are some things I am feeling grateful about.
Last month I travelled to Spain and Portugal. I have always dreamed of visiting Barcelona to see the famed Gaudi architecture and it did not disappoint. I was inspired by Gaudi’s emphasis on curving form, light, space, texture and recycled materials to create some of the most unique places I have ever seen. The joint exhibition of Picasso and Miro in Barcelona also was a source of inspiration about following your inner voice in creating art. In Lisbon, Portugal I was also inspired by the handmade filigree jewelry they are known for.
As soon as I got back from my travels I participated in the Metal and Smith Holiday Pop-Up in Soho NYC. It was a wonderful experience and I am grateful for the wonderful customers, friends and fellow jewelry artists who attended.
Last week I took the opportunity to visit some of the wonderful shows that were part of NYC Jewelry week and saw incredible work from jewelry artists I admire.
This week I travelled to Chicago for Thanksgiving and I am so grateful to be together with my extended family here.
With all this travel and events it’s been hard to get in the studio, but I did complete three aquamarine and silver pieces (two charms and a bracelet). One of the charms has found it’s home, but I will list the new pieces very soon. I am very grateful for time in the studio.
For the third year, I participated in Mirrors of the Mind, an exhibit of artworks by artists who are practicing psychotherapists. To see the virtual exhibit click here. I am so grateful to be able to combine my professional life as a psychologist and a jewelry artist and thank LACPA for putting on this wonderful show every year.
As one way to express my gratitude I will participate in Giving Tuesday by donating 20% of website sales to the National Alliance of Mental Illness. Giving back to community health efforts to destigmatize mental illness is the mission of NAMI. I have made regular donations of 10% of sales to NAMI all year, but let’s kick it into high gear on Giving Tuesday this year. (I’ve extended the Giving Tuesday event for all sales through midnight December 1st, 2023).
